How to check mouse DPI accurately

Three deliberate steps are more useful than a result that only looks precise.

Mark a real distance

Use a ruler or another verified length beside your mouse. Two inches or five centimeters is an easy starting point; longer distances reduce hand error.

Move in one straight line

Start the run, move exactly to your ruler mark, then click. Cross-axis movement is recorded so diagonal drift stays visible.

Repeat, then compare

Five runs produce an average, deviation score, likely 50-DPI step, and a confidence label you can actually interpret.

An honest DPI estimate beats a fake exact number. A website cannot inspect every mouse sensor profile directly. It can measure movement reported by your browser and compare it with a known physical distance. That makes this an effective DPI estimate—not laboratory certification.

What does this mouse sensitivity test measure?+

It estimates effective mouse DPI by comparing the movement reported by your browser with a physical distance measured on your desk. It does not score aim skill or read in-game sensitivity settings.

Can a website detect my exact hardware DPI?+

Not directly on every device. The browser reports movement values; this tool compares those values with the real distance you enter. Raw pointer lock can reduce operating-system adjustment in supported browsers, but manufacturer software remains the source of truth for the configured sensor profile.

Do I need a physical ruler to test mouse DPI?+

You need a reliable real-world distance, but it does not have to come from a ruler. A verified ruler is easiest; a standard bank card or a known paper size can also help you mark a distance. Without any physical reference, a browser can compare movement consistency but cannot calculate trustworthy absolute DPI.

Why should I run the mouse DPI test five times?+

A ruler test includes small physical errors. Repeating it reveals whether the result is stable. The average, percentage deviation, and axis drift together are much more useful than a single measurement.

Should I turn off Enhance Pointer Precision?+

Yes, especially if raw movement is unavailable. Pointer acceleration changes the distance reported according to movement speed, which can make one run differ sharply from the next.

What is the difference between DPI, CPI, sensitivity, and eDPI?+

CPI is the technically precise sensor term, while DPI is the familiar consumer term. In-game sensitivity is a software multiplier. eDPI usually means mouse DPI multiplied by in-game sensitivity for comparisons inside the same game.

Does this mouse DPI checker upload movement data?+

No. Measurement and statistics run locally in your browser tab. There is no account, mouse model lookup, or movement upload.
